    Canadian GDP surpassed expectations in Q2

    Canadian GDP grew at a faster pace than expected in June up 0.3% beating the 0.2% forecast. Statistics Canada said real GDP was up by 0.8% during the quarter ending June 30th, up from a 0.2% increase in the first quarter. The surge in GDP boosted the annualized pace of growth to 3.1% higher than the 2.7% economists had expected following sagging growth in the first quarter.     U.S. Prelim GDP beat expectations

    U.S. Prelim GDP data showed that U.S. gross domestic product expanded by 4.2% in the second quarter, beating expectations for growth of 3.9% after an expansion of 4.0% in the three months to April, confirming the view that the U.S. recovery is on track. U.S. Unemployment Claims declined to 298K lower than the expected 299K forecast remaining below 300K for the second week in a row.     Russian and Ukrainian talks fail to produce breakthrough

    Russian and Ukrainian presidents face-to-face talks failed to produce a breakthrough for ending the conflict over eastern Ukraine. The one-on-one session, which Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko described as “tough and complex,” ended early yesterday. Mr. Poroshenko said afterward that he would prepare a “road map” toward a possible cease-fire with the pro-Russia separatists.     U.S. Durable Goods Orders and Consumer Confidence Surge

    U.S. Durable Goods Orders for July surged to an all time monthly record high of 22.6%, forecasts were calling for an increase of 7.8%. The spike was due to Boeing aircraft sales generated from the UK air show increasing non-defense aircraft orders by 318%.     U.S. New Home Sales declined in July

    U.S. New Home Sales came in below expectations for July printing at 412K, the expectation was 426K. New-home sales plunged 30.8 percent in the Northeast, followed by smaller drop-offs in the Midwest and West. Purchases were up 8.1 percent in the South.
